Visitor Services Associate – Seasonal

Over the past 40 years, The International Crane Foundation (ICF) has grown from the dream of two college students to a world-renowned conservation effort to save the world’s cranes and the flyways and habitats they frequent.  Our Visitor Services serves an Ambassador to our visitors and guests.   We are currently looking to fill this position through October.  This position will be scheduled 30-40 hours a week. This will include some weekends.

Our campus is located on 200+ acres of rolling prairies with trails. ICF operates a zoo that features all 15 of the world’s cranes.

The Visitor Services Associate supports the mission of and serves as an ambassador for the International Crane Foundation (ICF) by providing exceptional customer service to all visitors and guests, including donors, members, and visiting colleagues. Facilitates admissions and visitor services to enhance overall visitor and member experience. Creates a friendly, welcoming and safe environment. The Visitor Services Associate will collaborate with seasonal interns and volunteer naturalists assigned to the Conservation Education Department, especially for the purpose of staffing of the George Archibald Welcome Center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the face of the International Crane Foundation at the George Archibald Welcome Center. Provides a warm, welcoming greeting, is friendly and approachable, and resolves conflict in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Effectively and accurately provides information to guests regarding Cranes of the World policies, site orientation, exhibits, special events, and programs. Provides assistance to guests as needed.
  • Sells admissions, event tickets, Member/Donor/VIP admissions utilizing a point-of-sale system.
  • Accountable for properly handling funds collected for membership and admission sales, charging appropriate prices, and following guidelines for free and discounted admission.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provides additional support for special events and programs outside of normal operating hours as needed.
  • Represent ICF in a professional manner as an AZA membership in good standing and promotes AZA reciprocity in a positive manner.
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Provide back-up for Gift Shop staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Customer Service: Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Interest in Conservation and the environment.

Qualifications Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in customer service.
  • Experience with E-mail and Internet.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the hospitality, retail, or customer service field.
  • Experience with operating point of sale/retail software (e.g., Square, e-commerce, etc.).

  • Office environment with a comfortable office climate and limited noise.
