Poetry on the Prairie

Our People’s Choice Award voting begins July 10!

A huge thank you to everyone who submitted an original poem for our Poetry in the Prairie exhibit, opening Saturday, June 17 at our world headquarters in Baraboo, Wisconsin.  We received more than 100 thought provoking, moving, celebratory, funny and contemplative entries. Soon our exhibit areas will be adorned with poems inspired by cranes, prairies and wetlands. The judges are Wisconsin Poet Laureate Karla Huston, Nature writer, poet and artist Julie Zickefoose, and Environmental Attorney and Poet James Blackburn. Winners of our competition will be announced July 1, 2017.

Lots of fun events are planned for this season and for our virtual visitors on our website and social media. On September 23 we will host a poetry slam during Member Appreciation Day. We hope you will visit us this season to experience the magic of poetry, try your hand at writing haiku, join us to share a favorite poem at our poetry slam, or simply to see the only complete collection of all 15 species of cranes in the world. You can support the work of the International Crane Foundation as a member, donor or Crane Heritage Society member. Click here to learn more.

This project is funded in part, by a grant from Sauk County UW-Extension, Arts & Culture Committee and the Wisconsin Arts Board with funds from the State of Wisconsin.
