Sharing their Story

Joan is the leader for the Administration and Communications Team for the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership, a coalition of organizations returning Whooping Cranes to the eastern United States of which the International Crane Foundation is a founding member. She has accompanied the Whooping Cranes on migration from Wisconsin to Florida, providing education programs along the flyway, and more recently coordinates outreach near the species’ wintering area along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Joan also coordinates the Three White Cranes, Two Flyways, One World education program, connecting American, Chinese and Russian students, and participates in education summer camps at Muraviovka Park, Russia. Originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, Joan received her B.A. in Journalism-Public Relations and Advertising from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
