Indiana Craniacs ~ Join us at Metazoa Brewing Co. on Saturday, Jan. 25, for the release of their new beer “Hoppy Crane,” a wheat heavy IPA! A percentage of proceeds from the sale of the new beer will support our work to protect Whooping Cranes in Indiana.

Say aah – Hope gets a checkup @ Mesker Park Zoo

Yes, even our Whooping Crane mascot Hope goes to the doctor! Hope will get a checkup at the Mesker Park Zoo’s Teddy Bear Clinic on Sunday, Jan. 26. The clinic is free with zoo admission. Registration is not required.

Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area Field Trip @ Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area

Meet at the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area Visitor Center at 9 a.m. and join in a caravan to see the birds that live in Goose Pond this time of year, including our overwintering cranes.  This field trip is co-lead by Lee Sterrenburg of the Friends of Goose Pond and Sassafras Audubon Society members.

Whooping Crane Presentation @ Lake Village Memorial Township Library

Despite their rarity, Whooping Cranes have been seen in Newton County, Indiana, during their spring and fall migration! Learn about the endangered Whooping Crane and the cranes of the world in this fascinating presentation by our outreach staff. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Sands and the Newton County Public Library.

Dance Like a Crane @ Evansville Museum

Come ready to get moving! Learn how cranes dance and strengthen their pair bonds with their lifelong mate. This program is part of the Evansville Museum’s Star Crossed Lovers event.

PBS Wisconsin Garden and Landscape Festival @ Alliant Energy Center

It may just be winter here in Wisconsin, but we are already thinking about spring. A highlight of this year’s Garden and Landscape Festival is the presentation by our Co-founder George Archibald on Saturday, February 8, at 3 p.m. George will speak about his life with cranes and dahlias – yes, he’s a gardener too! Our President and CEO Rich Beilfuss and several of our staff will also be sharing presentations throughout the weekend.
