Celebrate Good Neighbor Day @ International Crane Foundation
Oct 27 @ 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

A non-perishable food item is your ticket to the International Crane Foundation Saturday, Oct. 27, to celebrate Good Neighbor Day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Each donated item will be generously matched by our sponsor Viking Village Foods – Reedsburg. All donated food will be given to the Baraboo Food pantry.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up in costumes and enjoy special events. Ibex Puppetry will be putting on a special performance of Harmonious Migration at 10 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m., and visitors will have the opportunity to explore fall-themed activity booths around the crane exhibits to learn about migration, crane folklore, and make festive crane masks. Event sponsor Ho-Chunk Gaming Wisconsin Dells will provide produce for visitors to create fall-themed crane enrichment pumpkins, which Aviculture staff will then present to the cranes. Candy will be available, and in partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, KIND Snacks will be assisting in providing healthy and delicious snacks to visitors with their new KIND KidsTM bars.

Harmonious Migrations has been developed to teach audiences about the interconnectivity of the elements in the environment as they relate to crane flyways. This 30-min presentation illustrates how Native people of North America participate in the same planetary dance as the crane and all creations. The ancient art of oral storytelling and puppetry are at the core of the performance. Audiences are introduced to the wisdom of the Native American Medicine Wheel, an Indigenous design for living. They will gain knowledge of the Four Directions, four elements, four medicinal herbs, and four stages of life which sustain all living creatures, including cranes and humans. Click here to view a trailer for the performance.

Visitors also have the opportunity to experience live crane exhibits and explore beautiful nature trails that wind through prairie, shaded woodland and majestic oak savanna. Guided tours will be held at 10 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 3 p.m., where guests can learn about the different species of cranes and the foundation’s efforts to protect them around the world. Plan your visit.

Special thanks to our sponsors for making this event possible:
