Homeland of the Crane

Asia: Russia Program > Crane Protected Areas in Russia > Homeland of the Crane

The "Homeland of the Crane" is a complex of protected areas and unprotected natural areas that is an important breeding and fall migration area for Eurasian Cranes in the Moscow Region, Russia. Supporters of the area have conducted surveys of breeding and migrating cranes, organized an annual Crane Festival to celebrate the fall migration and gathering of cranes, and developed an exhibit on cranes and the region’s wetlands, along with other education materials, to increase community awareness of the region’s resources. ICF has supported the work of international and local supporters of the area to develop a management plan for the region that benefits both wildlife and local residents.
