Whooping Crane Update,
November 20, 2005
The group of five yearling males (nos. 2, 3, 12, 16, and 17-04) that
completed
migration to the Chassahowitzka pensite on November 17 reverted
northbound the next day and roosted in northwestern Florida.
The group composed of nos. 2-01, 12-02, 3-02, 17-03, 1-03, and 11-03
resumed migration from northeastern Illinois and roosted in
south-central Indiana.
As
of November 18, five Whooping Cranes (nos. 7-01, 1-02, 6-03, 7-03, and
15-04) were confirmed at Jasper-Pulaski State Wildlife Area.
Jasper-Pulaski is the major stopover area for migrating eastern
Sandhill Cranes. There are approximately 15,000 Sandhills currently at
Jasper-Pulaski.
The group of 19 Whooping Cranes currently
being led by Operation Migration ultralight aircraft left Shelby
County, Kentucky this morning and flew to their next stopover location
in Washington County, Kentucky. The photo was taken this morning as
they left Shelby County.
