The current size of the eastern migratory Whooping Crane population is 85 birds (48 males, 37 females). Distribution of the cranes as of December 26 included 2 in Illinois, 28 in Indiana, 10 in Tennessee, 2 in Alabama, 2 in South Carolina, 3 in Georgia, 5 in Florida, 26 at undetermined locations, and 7 long-term missing. After taking some time off during the holidays, the ultralight-led migration has resumed. The 20 Whooping Cranes and crew with Operation Migration are currently in Franklin County, Alabama.
