ADA Accessibility & Scooters
Accessibility and safety are very important at the International Crane Foundation. The main trails throughout the crane exhibit area are paved and are easily accessed by visitors utilizing wheelchairs, strollers or scooters. ICF offers individual motorized scooters at no additional charge for those visitors that may need assistance walking. The scooters are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.
While some of our trails are not handicap accessible, we encourage visitors to consult our site map and ICF staff regarding those areas that may present challenges to wheelchairs, strollers or motorized scooters.
Parking space is reserved for disabled guests, and visitors are welcome to drop disabled visitors off directly at the Visitor Center entrance if preferred. For assistance with additional handicap parking, please inquire at the Gift Shop upon arrival.
ICF offers self-guided tours for our hearing impaired visitors. Please inquire at the Gift Shop about interpretive materials for use within our exhibit area.
To ensure the safety and well-being of our cranes, ICF does not permit service animals in our bird exhibit areas.
Please contact ICF’s Education Department for more information on translators for foreign languages. We may be able to offer translation assistance for groups speaking Chinese, Russian or Spanish.

Cameras: Visitors are welcome to take pictures during their visit. Flash photography is allowed, except in the art gallery.
Food and beverages: Beverage vending machines are located at the Cudahy Visitor Center. Food and beverages are not allowed in the Visitor Center. ICF's open picnic area and covered gazebo are available for picnics on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Smoking: ICF is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is permitted at the designated area near the entrance to the Cudahy Visitor Center.
Alcohol: ICF is an alcohol-free facility. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on our premises.
Recycling: ICF provides recycling bins at several locations throughout our site. Please recycle while visiting with us. If you would like to recycle your used site map, please leave it with the Gift Shop staff.
Lost and Found: If you have lost a personal item, please contact the Gift Shop at (608) 356-9462, ext. 121. Please claim your item(s) within 30 days.
Individual motorized scooters: ICF offers individual motorized scooters at no additional charge for those visitors that may need assistance walking. For safety reasons, these carts are not allowed on unpaved trails.
Nature trails: Visitors are encouraged to explore ICF's three miles of nature trails weaving through prairie, oak savanna, wetland, and oak forest ecosystems. However, walking off trails is not allowed since the restorations and fragile ecosystems could be damaged. Flowers and grasses should not be picked to allow them to develop seeds, and to allow all ICF visitors to enjoy them.
Feather collection: Visitors are not allowed to take crane feathers off the ICF site. Each crane species is protected by a variety of laws, and permits are needed to obtain or hold crane feathers. Please contact an ICF staff member if you have questions regarding feather collection regulations.
Littering: Cranes may ingest bits of metal, plastic or other litter they find. Please be careful with litter while you are visiting ICF. Trash cans are located throughout our site.
Interacting with exhibit birds: The cranes found in our exhibit area may walk to the front of their enclosures as visitors approach. This is not a friendly behavior indicating the birds are hungry or curious. This behavior is an aggressive protection of their territory. Please respect our cranes by not reaching past the fences and guard rails that surround their enclosures, vocalizing with the birds, or mimicking their movements.
Cancellation policy: Please note that while there is not a penalty for canceling a school or youth group tour, ICF reserves the right to charge a $50.00 cancellation fee for those motorcoach groups that do not phone the ICF Education Department at least 24 hours in advance.
Skateboards: No skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, tricycles, or scooters are allowed past the admissions area of ICF. Please feel free to park bicycles near the Cudahy Visitor Center entrance.
