On Thursday, October 22 the remaining eight Whooping Crane chicks at the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge were crated and driven the four miles to the first migration stopover site, where they were reunited with their flockmates. Hopefully Mother Nature will be a little kinder in the coming weeks as Operation Migration’s ultralight aircraft and the 20 juvenile cranes travel through Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia to reach the birds’ wintering habitats at Chassahowitzka and St. Marks National Wildlife Refuges along Florida's Gulf Coast.
