Exchange of Artwork from Students Around the World
The Children's International Art Exchange is an exchange of artwork from students around the world. It offers an opportunity to educate children and adults about ecosystem protection and restoration. To protect the wetland and grassland habitats that cranes depend on, people must work together, often across political boundaries that the birds ignore. This exchange helps promote understanding among students of different cultures, and shares the beauty of cranes and the value of healthy ecosystems needed to sustain people and cranes.
Eligibility:
Students in grades K-12 may enter their artwork for this exhibition. Individual artwork and group projects are accepted.
Subjects:
The central themes for the Children's International Art Exchange are cranes and their habitats. This includes all fifteen crane species and the wetland and grassland ecosystems upon which they depend. All media are accepted, but two-dimensional artwork is preferred. Three-dimensional artwork and those pieces exceeding the maximum measurements may be exhibited at ICF, but size, weight, and space limitations prohibit us from sending these entries overseas.
The Exhibition:
Selected artwork will be exhibited at ICF from April 15-June 30. ICF staff and associates will deliver the artwork to overseas schools. Artwork from those schools will be circulated among participating U.S. schools the following year.
Submission Instructions:
- Artwork for this exhibition must be submitted to ICF by March 1.
- The maximum dimensions of each piece, including matting, are 20.5 x 26.5 inches (fabric art pieces may be larger, but will be folded to the above dimensions for shipping). To have your art piece sent overseas, it must not exceed the dimensions of 12 x 15 inches.
- All artwork must be matted using poster board or matting materials.
- All submissions become property of ICF. Some pieces may become part of ICF's permanent collection and used for promotional materials. Participating U.S. schools will not receive their own art back, but will receive international artwork to be displayed for two weeks at their school. This international artwork is part of a traveling exhibit that you are responsible for shipping to the next participating school.
- Although care will be taken to insure the safety of the artwork, ICF cannot assume responsibility for lost or damaged artwork.
- ICF will not ship unusually large or three-dimensional objects. You may submit these articles to be used in ICF's spring art exhibit, but if you want oversized pieces returned, you must make arrangements to pick up the artwork after June 30 and before August 31. Please contact the Art Exchange Coordinator for details.
- It is assumed that the artist understands these conditions, and that submission of artwork implies acceptance of these terms. The art may be used in exhibits, exchanges, and for non-commercial activities.
- Send artwork to: International Crane Foundation, Art Exchange Coordinator, E-11376 Shady Lane Road, Baraboo, WI 53913-0447.
