Nesting update: Two pairs of whooping cranes that had abandoned their nests earlier this spring began renesting yesterday on the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge! Whooping crane distribution: There are currently 79 whooping cranes (48 males and 31 females) in the eastern migratory population. The majority of these birds are located in the core reintroduction area in central Wisconsin, and a few cranes are located in other parts of the state.
