Our Commitment

From our beginning, we have recognized that conserving all 15 species of cranes requires a broad commitment to the people and places essential to cranes. Over five decades, we have grown dramatically in global reach and impact while protecting the landscapes that sustain cranes, people and many other species. Cranes truly are ambassadors for conservation, representing some of the most important places on Earth.

However, crane conservation remains a daunting challenge. Cranes are among the most endangered families of birds in the world, with 10 of the 15 species threatened. Consequently, our global priorities span Africa, East Asia, Southeast Asia and North America, while our headquarters in Baraboo, Wisconsin, serves as a global center for conservation leadership and training.

Our Mission The International Crane Foundation works worldwide to conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds and flyways on which they depend. We provide knowledge, leadership and inspiration to engage people in resolving threats to cranes and their diverse landscapes.
