The Crane Specialist Group (CSG) is dedicated to promoting the study and conservation of the world’s 15 crane species and the ecosystems on which they depend. The Crane Specialist Group currently has 247 members from 56 countries, and works in affiliation with the Species Survival Commission of IUCN and Wetlands International. We also coordinate our activities with regional crane working groups, each with a specific geographic focus (see list below).
Membership in the Crane Specialist Group
Membership in the Crane Specialist Group is open by invitation to researchers and conservationists who have demonstrated an active commitment to working on cranes and the ecosystems where they live. The International Crane Foundation (ICF) supports activities of the Crane Specialist Group, and members receive an electronic version of ICF's quarterly newsletter, The ICF Bugle. An archive of past issues is also available.

Crane Specialist Forum
The Crane Specialist Group seeks news of crane research, crane-related conservation activities (for example, action on behalf of wetlands or landscapes important to cranes), and general information requests for our online Crane Specialist Forum. We will also post news relevant to Crane Specialist Group members, such as upcoming crane workshops or important publications.

, Chair, Crane Specialist Group. The Chair will review and edit material for posting online. Where possible, photos or maps to accompany text are highly desirable, but must be credited and have all proper permissions to be posted online. Materials will be posted on the ICF website, with name and contact information from the sender. Postings can be made without your contact information, if you request.
We hope Crane Specialist Group members will join in this effort to make the latest crane news widely available. The Crane Specialist Forum is primarily intended to assist communication among specialist group members but is open to anyone with an interest in cranes.
Resources
The Ron Sauey Library for Bird Conservation at ICF has the world’s largest collection of materials related to cranes, their captive health, and their conservation in the wild. Many of these materials are available electronically on the website or by contacting the librarian.
The library seeks reports about crane research and projects and other relevant materials such as distribution maps, sent either by email or regular mail.
A free downloadable photo gallery of crane species is available online, as well as an extensive image collection that is accessible by contacting our photo editor.
A variety of education materials are available for students and teachers in English, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish.
