The International Crane Foundation (ICF) is seeking to fill an Aviculture Internship position for summer 2015.
Background: ICF is a leader in the conservation of the world's 15 crane species and is dedicated to providing experience, knowledge, and inspiration to involve people in resolving threats to cranes and the ecosystems vital to their long-term survival. ICF's world headquarters is located just outside Baraboo, WI (one hour north of Madison, WI). ICF is open to the public every day from April 15 to October 31 each year. ICF exhibits the only collection in the world of all 15 species of crane. The Crane Conservation Department (CCD) is responsible for the care and management of approximately 120 birds year-round. CCD Aviculture interns assist the fulltime staff in the day to day management of the collection.

The Aviculture Internships positions are 6 months in length. A $550/month stipend and comfortable on-site housing accommodations are provided at no charge. Applicants should be prepared to live in a co-ed communal living situation and be able to work outdoors every day in all weather conditions found in Wisconsin. Aviculture Interns will work weekends and holidays; they will have two consecutive days off during the work week. A typical work week may be 40-50 hours and will require some evening checks. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license. All applicants must be eligible to work in the United States at the time they apply. Candidates without a work visa must obtain one before they will be considered for an internship.
Qualifications: Two years of college or an equivalent practical experience; knowledge of avian biology and interest in animal husbandry/zoo keeping; ability to work both independently and in a team environment; strong oral and written communication skills. This position is physically demanding at times. Applicants must be able to carry 50 pounds and be able to lift, bend, or stoop for extended lengths of time.
