Whooping Crane No. 14-02 Arrives in Florida!

Female, No. 14-02 is the first Whooping Crane to arrive in Florida this fall. On November 16, 2004, No. 14-02 was observed outside the release pen at the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge. No. 14-02 had last been observed on Nov. 9 while in flight over Tennessee.

On Nov. 15, Nos. 1-03, 9-03 and 18-03 moved north into New Hanover County, North Carolina. On Nov 16, these three birds continued to move north along the Atlantic coast to roost in Carteret County, North Carolina.

Julia Watson, ICF Crane Tracker, reports that seven older Whooping Cranes have reached the Hiwassee State Wildlife Refuge in Tennessee. They are Nos. 5-01, 7-01, 1-02, 4-02,

No major movements of the other eastern migratory Whooping Cranes have occurred during this period due to unsuitable weather conditions.
