Entry November 14

11/14/04: Windiana

The Operation Migration crew and 14 Whooping Cranes flew 21 miles yesterday and are currently in Scott County, Indiana. They had hoped to make it to their first stop in Kentucky, but winds increased midway through the flight.

Sunday, Nov 14, Day 36: Birds Flew!
Current location:
Oldham County, Kentucky.
Miles traveled today: 27; Total miles traveled: 492.

Meanwhile, PTT, or satellite readings from the 2003 cranes that spent the summer in Michigan, indicate that they are in South Carolina. They were last reported on migration in north-central Ohio on November 7.

Number 7-03 is in coastal Georgia already--almost to Florida!

Favorable migration conditions expected in Central Wisconsin did not materialize, and 17 whooping cranes remain in the Necedah NWR area.
